The innocence of Muslims

The Innocence of Muslims is a low-budget movie that is ostensibly causing the mayhem in the Middle East.  Yesterday, Hilary Clinton labeled the film as disgusting and reprehensible; today, MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell declined to show her viewers any clips because it was so despicable.  Mitchell admitted that she hadn’t seen the 15-minute film, but had seen the trailer.

The movie is readily available You Tube, and I have seen it.  Yes, it maligns Islam and Mohammed, but no worse than other low-budget satires of politicians like Clinton, Bush-43, or Obama or other religious figures like the Pope, priestly pedophiles, or philandering evangelicals.

Since when is Islam or Mohammed off-limits in America to satire?  As I recall, First Amendment advocates regularly file lawsuits to protect the rights of artists to display exhibits in NYC museums that ridicule Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary.  Where are those advocates now?  Probably the same place the ACLU is whenever conservative free speech is challenged.
