Fiscal sanity

Picking up on yesterday’s theme about fiscal sanity, I am inclined to accept the fiscal conservative’s argument that, unless Obama agrees to structural reform of Medicare or Medicaid, then this country needs to take a dive off the cliff.  Although the Fiscal Cliff will create a stiff headwind for the economy, the increased revenue and decreased spending will reduce our deficit dramatically.  That is a better result than simultaneously increasing taxes and spending, which is what Obama is proposing.

Fiscal conservatives since Reagan have argued that you can “starve the beast” by cutting taxes, but that didn’t work because our politicians will run a deficit rather than cut spending.  I think it’s time to try raising taxes and then rely on the conservatives in the House to block any increased spending.

Obama may think that big-spending liberals won control of both houses of Congress, but that ain’t so.
