Saturday Night at the Movies #63 – House of Cards

House of Cards is the first television series by Netflix.  It premiered on February 1, at which time all 13 first-season episodes became available for streaming.

The political-drama series, which is based on a BBC miniseries of the same name, is quite similar to West Wing, except without that show’s idealistic liberal bias.  Indeed, the protagonist Kevin Spacey, who plays a S.C. congressman, is exceedingly cynical and pragmatic, and his wife Robin Wright, who runs a D.C. non-profit, shares his attributes while providing the viewers with wonderful eye candy.

House of Cards was so good that I couldn’t put it down.  Two days after watching the first episode I finished the 13th 50-minute episode.  West Wing was excellent; House of Cards is better.  Three and a half stars out of four.
